Interview with Athena

How did you choose your professional name?

My legal name is Laura Alexander. I added Athena because it represents wisdom. I want to capture and share good judgement with my clients to help them be strong and to guide them on their financial or communication journey.

Why do you adopt a holistic approach?

My holistic approach to business consulting focuses on the whole person, including intellectual, emotional, and social factors. I chose a holistic approach based on my experiences with my clients. If we don’t take into account who we are, the body is unable to withstand the stress of everyday tasks and perform the way we want. If we don’t take care of our spiritual essence, we can feel depleted and disconnected on our journey. All aspects of ourselves must be centered and incorporated, because if one aspect is askew, it creates a domino effect that takes us down. If we are not right emotionally, the imbalance will cause issues in our finances. If our relationships are off-center, we can’t perform our duties or jobs as effectively. Everything must be harmonious in order to get the best from who we are.

How did you start your professional career?

My father was a real-estate guru who owned several apartment buildings. Following his example, I acquired my first multifamily rental unit at the age of 22. I learned a lot about showing and renting properties, collecting rent, dealing with tenants, and many other aspects, from renovations to common maintenance and cleaning.

How did you gained your financial management experience?

I proudly served 10 years in the U.S. Air Force as a Liaison Specialist and Financial Management Analyst. I coordinated the proper use of funds for several military installations in Germany. I also took part in Operation Desert Storm, managing all payments for supplies and equipment. I reconciled literally billions of dollars and was awarded the Air Force Achievement Medal.

How did you become a communication expert?

Whether I was dealing with tenants and service providers as a property manager or coordinating disbursement to vendors around the world, I learned a great deal about communication. Later, I added a formal foundation by completing a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications.

Why did you move to Hawaii?

I came to visit my son who was stationed at a military base in Hawaii and fell in love with the place and people. During my second stay, I arranged to move my business from New York to Honolulu. It was one of the best decisions of my life.

What is your life motto?

Support others in creating a joyful and abundant life experience.

Testimonials

Dr. Christine T Lipat, DC

Athena HBC Coaching and Consulting has been a real boost to my bottom line! As a minority woman sole proprietor, I knew I wanted a coach who could provide me with a structure and supportive environment for breaking through all different types of blockages holding me back from achieving my best work and life. I didn’t want just a business coach, but someone who could help me to transform my relationship to money, to what I think I deserve, to happiness, to my own health. Her holistic and spiritual approach to business was exactly what I needed!

As we looked at my financial goals, she not only provided great templates but also helped me work through areas of emotional resistance. As we looked at my time management, she helped me realize that prioritizing my health was core to increasing my productivity and maximizing my profits. Even though I can be a stubborn, independent minded entrepreneur, she is a gentle guide who can push when it’s needed.
